BIDDING ONLINE

Bid live

You can now bid LIVE in real time through our website at jeffreysevans.com and pay the same as our in-house buyer's premium as opposed to the extra 5.5% through Live Auctioneers and Invaluable.

Online Bidding with Invaluable & Live Auctioneers

26.5% Buyers Premium.

Live Internet and absentee bidding are available through Invaluable and LiveAuctioneers. All bidders must be approved by Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates prior to bidding. We do not have access to any bids placed through these sites. The platform places bids for you against in-house bidders, other internet bids, and bids executed by the auction house.

Bidder Approval Process

1: Referrals

If you are new to our firm and have limited or no-bid history on Invaluable or LiveAuctioneers, we may request verification of successful past auction transactions. If requested, we can consider:

  • Referrals from other auction houses (USA only).

Note to New Bidders: Although you may be a repeat buyer through Invaluable or LiveAuctioneers, we have no access to your purchase history; therefore, if you are new to our firm we request proof of previous successful transactions.

2: Driver’s License

We require a full name and physical home address for bidder registration in addition to a telephone number where we can reach you if needed. If your identity cannot be verified to our satisfaction we may request that you submit a legible copy of your driver’s license.

If requested, you may fax to 540.434.3399, send through the bidding platform’s messaging system (if applicable) or email Printable Appeal Instructions

You may request an explanation of the rejection and/or submit an appeal for reconsideration.

Appeals must be submitted via EMAIL to info@jeffreysevans.com), not through the Invaluable or LiveAuctioneers messaging system.

We allow 3 business days for the auction house staff to reply to our inquiry, therefore the appeal review process may not be completed in time for you to participate in our current auction. An overturned rejection will allow you to participate in future auctions as long as no new open disputes, late payments or incomplete transactions are associated with the bidder account.

Referral from another Auction House (USA only)

We will need the auction house’s name and location (city and state) and the date of the auction if known. If time permits, we will contact the auction house(s) on your behalf.

If your registration request is submitted less than 24 hours before our auction begins, we may not have sufficient time to facilitate this process. We will NOT contact other auction houses on your behalf after 4:00 pm ET the day before the auction.

TELEPHONE BIDDING

A 19% or 21.5% Buyer’s Premium applies to lots won through this bidding method.

Deadline to arrange telephone bid(s) is 3:00 pm ET, the day before the auction. We may reject telephone bid requests that are submitted after the deadline. Bidder’s approval is at the sole discretion of Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates.

The minimum opening bid for each telephone bid lot is $250.00 for calls within the USA or $500.00 for international calls. Therefore, unless we have absentee bids that would cause a lot to open higher, the bidding will open at $250.00 to the telephone bidder (if there are multiple telephone bidders on the same lot, the first to register for that lot will open the bidding if necessary).

Your telephone bid is not arranged until you have received confirmation from us.

To submit your telephone bid request, print and complete our Bid Form, then fax, mail or scan/email the completed and signed telephone bid request.

Telephone bidding is accepted at the bidder’s risk. We are not responsible for any losses incurred as a result of phone bidding (e.g. missed call, missed bid, inaccurately estimated call time).

We will call you to bid LIVE during the sale. It is recommended that you provide at least one alternate telephone number. You may also provide a “back up” bid amount (we will bid up to that amount for you if we cannot reach you by telephone).

Please DO NOT ask to add telephone bid lots during the auction. Organizing the telephone bidding requires careful coordination of time and personnel. We often have to call another telephone bidder immediately after assisting you with your lot.

We sell in lot number order at an approximate rate of 100 lots per hour. We may provide you with an estimated call time, but please understand that this is just our BEST GUESS for when the lot will sell; you should allow at least one hour either way. It is not always possible to call you several lots ahead so please be prepared to bid immediately if necessary.

All bid amounts refer to hammer price only; a buyer’s premium is added to the hammer price of each lot sold.

We will invoice all successful bidders within two business days of the end of the sale to arrange for payment and pick up or shipping. Most invoices are sent via email on the Monday following the auction.

The first two business days following an auction are extremely busy while we process invoices for all successful Internet, telephone and absentee bidders. Although we may not be available by telephone while invoicing is in progress, you are welcome to send an email and/or leave a voicemail message and we will return calls and emails at our earliest opportunity. Email is the preferred method of contact during this time.

Payment is due within five business days of the date of your invoice. Initial invoices will not include shipping charges.

Other Important Information About Absentee Bidding

  • We provide absentee bidding as a courtesy, at no additional charge to the buyer. We make every effort to accurately record and execute all submitted bids and although mistakes are uncommon, they can happen. We are not responsible for missed or inaccurately recorded bids.
  • We will continue to bid on your behalf as long as there is at least one other competing bid. We will cease bidding for you when you win the item due to a lack of other competing bids or the next bid increment exceeds your maximum bid.
  • The absentee bid amount refers to the “hammer” price only. Please take the buyer’s premium into consideration when determining your maximum bid amount.
  • It is possible that a LIVE bidder could win a lot for the same bid amount you placed prior to the start of the auction; it depends on the opening bid amount and where the bid increment falls during live bidding on the lot. Click here for a sample bidding scenario.
  • We will notify all successful absentee, telephone, and Internet bidders within two business days of the end of the sale.
  • The first two business days following an auction are extremely busy while we process invoices for all successful Internet, telephone, and absentee bidders (approximately 150-200 bidders per sale). Although we may not be available by telephone while invoicing is in progress, you are welcome to send an email and/or leave a voicemail message and we will return calls and emails at our earliest opportunity.
IN-HOUSE BIDDING

In-House “Floor” Bidding

Welcome! When you arrive during auction preview or on auction day, you may go directly to the gallery to view the auction lots or come to the front desk to obtain your bid card.

You will be required to provide your valid driver’s license upon registration. We will also ask for your telephone number and if applicable, your email address (invoices and receipts can be sent as email attachments). This information is used for our contact purposes only. We do not share your personal information with anyone. Providing your email address does NOT add you to our email notification list.

If you are tax exempt for resale, we are required to have a properly executed and signed Sales and Use Tax Certificate of Exemption form on file for you. Non-Virginia dealers are also required to show proof of the current registration or license number, so please bring a copy with you, or you may fax it (540.434.3399), or email a scanned copy to ellen@jeffreysevanscom.

NEW SALES TAX REGULATIONS:

Due to the new Nexus sales tax law that all internet sales need to be in compliance with, we are requesting that our non-Virginia customers who have a Resale Tax Number provide that info to Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates with appropriate documentation, i.e., a current copy of your resale tax certificate for our files. Documentation should be emailed to ellen@jeffreysevans.com, or mailed to Jeffrey S. Evans, PO Box 2638, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.

We are in the process of monitoring the number of sales per state and once we meet the threshold of said state we will be collecting sales tax from buyers from said state, unless we have an exempt form on file.

Bid Increments

Following is our standard bid increment guide.Submitted bids that are not commensurate with our standard bid increments will be rounded up to the correct bid increment.
